Nostalgia's Anchor
Is "fine" our destination of choice?
When was the last time you felt fully alive?
Not “fine.” Fully alive.
You remember. Focused energy flowing through you. Purpose-driven clarity driving distractions to the periphery.
A passion, burning internally - moving you forward with intention. Win or lose, you were in the game. Fully.
Then somewhere along the way, we arrived. We’re here. We finally made it! Lower the sails. Drop the anchor. And sit.
And yes, the calm waters provided a nice, much needed, break from the storms. But that was yesterday, and over time we find ourselves sitting comfortably in our safe, little cove as our wood rots and our compass rusts. We’re not unhappy. Nothing’s really “wrong.”
But what if “it” - the destination, the arrival, the having-made-it - was never the point? What if the real “it” was the internal fire that moved you? The harbor simply stoked that fire. It was the raising of the sails that made you come alive.
The anchor is still yours to weigh. The fire is still yours to claim.
Alive isn’t a place. It’s a way of living.
Because we’re not... done... yet.
